Reflection: Five Themes of Geography

Movement is the first theme, and it is the movement of people, goods, and ideas. One example of movement from "The Other Side of Truth" is on page 19 where Sade and Femi are going to go to London and stay with their uncle.

A group of locations that have something in common with each other is a region. The book talks about Somalia and Nigeria, and they are both war torn countries that are ruled by military government. There are examples of this in the book on page 1o and then Somalia on page 154.

Human-environment interaction is how humans affect the environment and how the
environment affects us. An example of this in the book is on page 38 when Sade and Femi are on the plane destined for London. The plane is damaging the environment.

The location of something is basically where it is. The book starts in Lagos, Nigeria; you can see this on page three. Later on, the location is
London, England. There are many other locations, but these are the basic ones. This is shown on page 40.

Place is what something is. One place in "The Other Side of Truth" is the school Sade goes to in London called Avon; it is an educational facility. It is mentioned on page 111.

Hey Vishal, maybe on movement, you could give more specific evidence so people know what is going on in the book just by reading your post. For example, Sade and Femi had to move to London because their father needed them to get out of the country or they'd be killed by the Nigerian police, so and so, etc...
Your region explanation is really good. it shows that you have good knowledge of the goings on in the world.
Your human environment interaction is OK but I think that you can explain some more. Such as, how the airplane is effecting the earth. Remember, anybody can read your posts, and they might not know that kind of stuff. I just think that you want to put in more specific information so that the reader can understand it.
For the location, is there any absolute location you could give? i don't specifically remember any in the book, but maybe you could find something, even on a map.
The place to me does not make any sense. What do you mean by the educational facility. There are educational facilities everywhere, Im not saying they're good, but they're still there. Think of place as "What makes that country or area unique," that'll help identify what place can be.

I agree with you on movement and I would like to add that also movement is when the were on the bus in the beginning of the book. I disagree with you because they may both be war torn and ruled by the military but they both have very different culture and ways of life like the language and the clothes. They also might have different food and clothes so therefore I think that since it has more differences than similarities in is not a significant example of region. I agree with you on the Human environmental interaction because the pollution of the burning oil that the plane uses is destroying the environment. For location it was obvious because it answers the question where is the place. In addition I would like to add that London would have more significance because they start describing as soon as they enter the airport with the apt names. I disagree with place because it needs to be more detail than just "an educational facility" and that is not a direct example of place. A better example would be Mr. and Mrs. Kings house because it is describing more the warm smells and the friendly smiles so it is a better and more descriptive example.
